both parents must be carriers of the defective gene, when they do there is a ΒΌ chance of the kid having canavan disease
SYMPTOMS INCLUDE... A poorly controlled head that is larger than normal, lack of motor development, feeding difficulties, and abnormal muscle tone. In the first 3 to 6 months of someones life, the symptoms begin to occur and from then on increase rapidly

1. Are quiet and apathetic
2. Have biochemical and DNA tests done in order to confirm diagnosis
3. Are mainly Ashkenazi Jews
4. Usually do not live past the age 10
5. Are missing the chromosome ASPA
